An immersion in the elements and processes of the natural world, the sound of natures patterns and human response.

These are process pieces created by placing various percussive object/surfaces under water drips inside caves. While letting the natural elements play this instrument I improvised alongside with some percussion.

Following on from my first recordings on Suikinkutsu, these were recorded around the Winter Solstice, I had a couple of recordings left over from the previous sessions that ive added new layers along with completely new ones. Made during another turbulent time in my life, I felt drawn back to record in these caves maybe as a form of healing or a place of solace.

Recorded between 22nd- 26th Dec 2024 in Cathedral Cave, and Dowkabottom Cave in Cumbria and Yorkshire UK,
Using tin cans, kettle, saucepans, dustbin lid, metal plates, metal food bowls, cake tin lids, various gongs, wood blocks/bars, chime bars, singing bowls and bells.

SUIKINKUTSU- "water harp cave".
A Japanese garden ornament used for its water drop sounds. Similar to metal wind chimes this device uses echoes from water to produce a calm zither like tinkle

SOZU - A traditional water fountain made of a bamboo tube that fills with water to produce a clanking sound.
